Clean clear and pure water is imperative for the smooth operation of any industrial unit. But often this water gets polluted by industrial discharge. This water is then purified with the help of industrial water filtration. A very important part of this filtration system is water softening. Industrial water softeners play a pivotal role when the unusable hard source water needs to be rid of their impurities and get converted to clean and pure soft water.
Industrial water softeners are ideal equipments to covert hard water into soft water for industrial use. Water softeners find their use in apartments, hospitals, manufacturing plants, restaurants, laundries, office complexes as well as food processing plants. Hard water can lead to blocked pipes, damaged boilers, damaged heat exchangers and also leads to lime scale deposits in commercial, industrial and household systems.
Industrial water softeners are designed to remove positively charged ions. In most cases, industrial softeners aim to remove Calcium and Magnesium. These minerals are commonly known as “hardness minerals”. At times, softeners are applied to remove iron present in water as well. Rock Salt, Solar Salt and Evaporated salts are the three types of salts used to soften hard water
Water softeners provide the advantage of clear, pure, soft, non-scaling clean water. This results in low operating costs and increases the lifespan of pipelines
Industrial water softeners are available in the single, duplex or multiple tank models depending upon water demand and water consumption. For moderate and consistent water demands are key factors, single system models are appropriate. These units are controlled by a time or meter control valve. Single system units reinforce themselves when water useage is low. These single control units are designed to bypass hard water unless it is specified. This closedown happens during the regeneration period.
Duplex water softeners tank models are designed to provide a continuous supply of soft water. While one column is actively supplying soft water, the other column is either on standby or is regenerating. There is a capacity dial available in these systems that monitors the usage of soft water and regenerates only when required. The standard features of these duplex softeners include flow controllers to limit backwash flow, 30-125 psi operating pressure, 35-100 degree operating temperature, self adjusting backwash controllers, no hard water bypass and an automatic motorized piston control. The advantage that a duplex system has over the single system is its ability to regenerate up to six times a day.
Water softeners require little maintenance and last a good many years. All that is required to ensure the smooth running of an industrial water softener system is to add the required salts at regular intervals. These salts are normally added during the regeneration of the softener directly into the reservoir. More salt is needed to be added if a softener is regenerated often.
Water softeners are checked twice in a month to ensure its smooth operation. Salt levels when kept half full at all times ensure the satisfactory production of soft water
