Think diet soda will help you lose weight? Think again!

Not to be outdone and recognising the large potential of a diet version of their product, Coca Cola jumped on the bandwagon in 1963 with a diet soda of their own; Tab.

Diet soda goes through the same carbonation process as any other carbonated drink in that it has pressurised carbon dioxide pumped into it to create the fizzy taste. Unlike normal carbonated soda diet soda is filled with artificial sweeteners rather than sugar. This is what gives the diet options their distinctive taste.

This distinctive taste is not for everyone and many companies have turned to using Sucralose (Splenda) instead of aspartame in their sugar free sodas in order to recreate the taste of normal soda. Critics have argued that the taste is not the same as original soda, but different.

Diet soda has become a very popular carbonated drink among people who want to lose weight or are health conscious because it is sugar free and has a very low calorie content which is good for people with high cholesterol who are more at risk of heart disease.

The fact of the matter is that there is no proof that diet soda actually helps people to lose weight, on the contrary, people are more likely to gain weight as a result of drinking diet soda but the results are so far inconclusive. One thing that is certain though is that people who drink vast quantities of normal soda will definitely lose weight as a result of switching to the diet version.

The reality of it all is that drinking diet soda is no more beneficial than drinking normal soda.

The artificial sweeteners in diet soda are linked with cancer (although there is no proof) and diet soda actually has more acid in it than normal soda resulting in increased enamel erosion. It has no benefit to physical fitness or nutrition.

In order to help gain physical fitness and/or increase weight loss is to drink water.

Both still and carbonated water have the same effect. It is the only pure clean substance that flushes your system and keeps your hydrated. If water seems boring and you wish to drink something with more taste but want to keep the benefits of just drinking water you can find a large assortment calorie free flavours to flavour sparkling water for a great taste is sold at allfreightfree.com..
